Brett is Southpoint’s founding minister (since 1992), and has served in ministries in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan since 1984. His degrees in Bible, Ministry and Theology (B.A., M.A., M.Div.) come from Cincinnati Bible College & Seminary. In Indianapolis, Brett worked as a Christian radio announcer, met his wife, Penny, in their church youth group (also a CBC graduate and a Southpoint Administrative Assistant), and married in 1985. They have two married sons & a grandson.
Mark was born in King, North Carolina & grew up on Pop-Tarts & sweet tea. He graduated from Kentucky Christian University in 1999 where he met his wife, Cindy. Cindy & Mark have three kids, two daughter-in-laws, & 2 grandkids. They served in churches in both Kentucky & North Carolina, then came to Southpoint in 2006. They are both passionate about growing healthy families & training/sending kids & adults to go share the gospel all over Downriver & the world.
Cindy started attending Southpoint in 1994 after seeing an ad that said, “Come as you are!” She met her husband, Greg, at Southpoint & married in 2000. They have a bunch of amazing kids & grandkids that they love hanging out with whenever possible. Cindy started on staff in 2005 after working in the legal field for 17 years & has a passion to make sure people are welcomed, connected & growing in their relationship with Jesus. She loves to go to concerts, collect vinyl records, & at home she relaxes by watching her favorite shows & movies and spending time with her family & friends.
Ben was born in Texas but raised in Kansas, with his seven other siblings. When he graduated high school, he returned to Texas where he served in a ministry for five years. He met a Michigan gal there named Amy. They dated long distance for a few years then got married & served in youth ministry in Virginia. In 2012, Ben & Amy moved back to Michigan to be closer to family, & that’s when they made Southpoint their home church. Ben loves to write songs, play his guitar & sing, play basketball, & hang out with family & friends. Ben & Amy have two daughters: Moriah & Selah.
Trent was born & raised in the mid-Michigan area. He has a Bachelors in Automotive Management from Ferris State University, a certificate in Bible from Moody Theological Seminary, & has been serving at Southpoint since 2010. He has been married to his wife, Sarah since 2008. They have a son named Evan & a daughter named Taya. Trent loves thinking strategically about disciple-making movements, church planting, personal finances, & Kingdom stewardship goals. He & his family enjoy spending time together. This includes getting outside in nature, camping near Michigan beaches, & exploring National Parks together!
Jon was born & raised in Downriver. He graduated from Union College (KY) where he met his wife Ellen. They’ve been married since April 2019 & have two sons, Luca & Ezra. Jon loves mexican food & going to the movies. Jon is passionate about leading others to Christ & constantly finding ways to improve & be an example for others.
JoEllen was born & raised in Trenton. With a Masters in Education, she spent nearly 10 years as a public school teacher before deciding to home school her own children. JoEllen has served in the NexGen ministry in some capacity since 2005 before joining the staff team in 2015. Married in 2001, JoEllen & her husband, Chris, have three teenagers: Haydn, Rylee, and McKay. When not writing lessons, prepping for students on the weekend, or trying to keep up with the latest teen culture, JoEllen loves to cook, exercise, read, & watch movies with her family. Her passion is for students and their families to love God deeply & share His truth boldly.
Rachel was born in New York, but was raised in Southeast Michigan. She has a Bachelors in Electronic Media & Film Studies. She married her husband Michael in 2011 & they have three children together: Sophia, Eric, & Kaycee. They started serving at Southpoint shortly after they became members in 2011, & Rachel came on staff in 2019. Rachel loves baking, being crafty, & spending time with her family & friends.
Jenna has been a member of Southpoint since 2005 & worked in the education field before joining our staff in 2008. She's been married to David since 1989. They are proud parents of a son, Dillan, who serves in the USAF, & their daughter Rachel & her husband Evan, who enjoy working together on their first home & spoiling their fur baby Ahsoka. Jenna's enthusiasm for groups comes from her desire to see others engaging in God's Word & encouraging one another through their relationship with Christ. She's always available to meet & come alongside those ready to follow Christ & make the Best Decision Ever through baptism. When she has spare time she enjoys reading, silent movies, organizing anything, & hanging out with her family & close friends.
Dawnell has been a member of Southpoint since 2006, & worked in the medical field for 17 years before joining our staff. As a volunteer, she has been dedicated to Info Central & supporting C-Groups for many years, became the Trenton Campus Pastor’s Administrative Assistant in 2014, & hired on to her staff role in July 2017. Dawnell has been married to Thomas since 1993 & they have 3 children: Aaron, Aden & Emma. When not around Southpoint, she’s usually attending her son’s hockey games, her daughter’s softball, dance or cheer, or just spending time with family.
Mike was born & raised in Downriver Michigan. He has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan. Mike started serving in Creative Arts back in 2012 & eventually came on staff part-time in 2016. He has been married to his wife Alexa since 2017 & they have a 2-year-old son named Charlie.
Kim grew up in Downriver, where she met her husband John in 1991 & eventually married. They later moved out of Downriver, & during this time Kim worked in both the dental and medical field. They returned to Downriver to raise two awesome kids, Sydney & Zachary. Looking for a Church home, they were invited to Southpoint in 2008. They immediately felt right at home & jumped right in! It was in her small groups & serving, where she found her passion. Her greatest desire is to see everyone know & love Jesus by connecting people in the Church, to one another & to God. This is how her role, as the Connection’s Director at Southpoint, came about. Kim enjoys games (she can be very competitive at times), coffee, camping & hanging out with her family & friends—although not in that order.
Bethany grew up Downriver & is an elementary school teacher in the same district that she attended & graduated from! She started attending Southpoint in 2015 & soon after joined the worship team. She loves worshiping through music & enjoys leading the creative arts team at the Allen Park location. She’s married to Jimmy & they have two girls—Olivia and Katie. Her favorite hobby that is now her own small business is decorating cookies!
Kristin has been a member of Southpoint since 2003 & came on staff in 2019. Kristin & her husband, Jesse, have 3 kids. They dream of "retiring" on a self-sustaining farm in the country with lots of land. If you ask those close to her, they'll tell you she has a book problem & likes to bake. Kristin also enjoys anything Christmas, playing board & video games, & gardening.
Paul has been a member of Southpoint since 2015 & came on staff in 2021. He has a passion to help lead others to Christ, get them connected, & grow in their relationship with Jesus. He has been married to his wife Katherina since 1998 & they have two kids, PJ & Sarah, who are both active and serving at Southpoint.
Sydney grew up going to Southpoint with her family. At a Christian youth conference in high school, she felt called to serve the Church vocationally. In 2019, she began her education at Ozark Christian College studying Creative Arts Ministry. She was hired by Southpoint during the COVID-19 pandemic, & transferred to Cornerstone University shortly after. She is currently pursuing a degree in Communications with a Biblical Studies minor while working at Southpoint. In her free time, you can find Sydney enjoying a nice cup of black coffee while reading, drawing, or writing.
Pat's family—her husband Ron & their two children, Mathew & Alison, moved to the area in 1995. They started attending Southpoint shortly thereafter & within a few times of attending, they found their new church home, which at the time was meeting in an elementary school only a few steps from their front door. She got baptized & they joined the church in 1996. Shortly thereafter, in 1997, she was hired to help Brett & Penny with the administration stuff & she's been here ever since. And now all these years later, her grandchildren are attending too.
Betty found Southpoint in 2001 & immediately knew she had found her church home. After volunteering for several years, she was hired in 2007. She married her husband Bob in 1994 they have 4 children. They were both born & raised in Downriver but now live in Northern Colorado. She feels blessed to be able to work remotely & still be a part of the church she loves. They return frequently to see their very large family, which includes 8 grandchildren. She loves hiking, camping, exploring God's creations, gardening & crafting.
Alexa grew up Downriver. She was baptized & became a member of Southpoint while she was in high school in 2004. In 2015 she met her husband Mike while serving on the worship team & was married by 2017. They have a son named Charlie who is 3. Alexa went to college studying healthcare & worked in hospital & office settings until her son was born. Then she became a stay at home mom. In 2022 she joined staff at the Allen Park location. She loves movies, relaxing, & laughing with friends & family. More than that she loves serving & helping people know God’s love & the abundant life we have through Christ.
Jessica is a life-long Michigander, having been raised in a small town downstate & attended Michigan Tech in the Upper Peninsula. She found Southpoint when she moved to Downriver in 2006, & has served both as a volunteer & staff over the years in a variety of roles, thankful for all the opportunities & how God has used it all to grow her! Jessica & her husband, Chad, enjoy the outdoors, learning, DIY projects, friends, games, music, and living simple lives at home.
Terri has lived all her life in Downriver & went to Lincoln Park High School. In school she was in the marching band, the concert band, & the orchestra. The orchestra played for the plays that were musicals, so she had had a life-long enjoyment of live theatre. She has 2 step-children in their 50’s, Holly & Mike; 4 granddaughters in their 20’s, Kara, Rachael, Jessica & Alison; & 4 great-grandchildren under 5 years old, Gracie, Wyatt, Zoe, & one that won’t be born until February 2023.
Kenny has been in Michigan for 35 years & is currently the UAW Chairman at Flat Rock Assembly Plant. He has an amazing wife & four wonderful children (Erica, Kyle, Courtney, & Jake). He has six grandkids (Vinny, Isaac, Kayleigh, Mia, Kamila, & Bryson). He is passionate about new believers & helping them get to know a God that has blessed him more than he deserves! He has been at Southpoint for about 15 years & has been in & led numerous ministries. He loves God with all he has & loves helping others get that light bulb moment.
Keith grew up in Allen Park, spent 2 years in the Army in Europe and worked for 30 years as an engineer at an automotive company where he retired in 2007. Woodworking, travel, & photography are some of his interests. He married the love of his life, Sue, in 1977 and has 2 married children whose families live in Grand Rapids & in Taiwan. The family came to Southpoint in 2002. Keith & Sue came to the Lord in a small group prior to Southpoint & have a love of small groups & look forward to continuing to be part of Southpoint’s future.
